These ads are not personalized, are not linked to your identity, and are not used to track you across apps or websites. Citizenry Pro subscribers and lifetime customers do not see ads.

Citizenry ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our mobile application, website, and services.

We strive to comply with applicable privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") and the California Consumer Privacy Act ("CCPA"), and we aim to process your data lawfully, fairly, and transparently.

1. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Citizenry mobile application for iOS and Android, the Citizenry website, and any related services we operate (collectively, the "Services").

2. Introduction

Citizenry is an educational mobile application designed to help individuals prepare for the United States citizenship naturalization test through mock interviews, study materials, and practice questions.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use our app.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 App Use

Our citizenship-preparation app does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask you to enter personal details such as your name, email address, or postal address in the app.

When you use our app, certain information may be collected automatically by analytics and crash reporting services. This information may include:

  • Device identifiers (for example, device ID)
  • IP address and general location information (such as country or region)
  • App usage statistics (such as screens viewed and session duration)
  • Technical information about your device and operating system
  • Crash logs and performance data

3.2 Website Use

When you visit our website, we may use Google Analytics to understand website traffic and how people find and use our site. This may include pages viewed, referral source, campaign parameters, approximate device category, platform, browser language or locale, and whether you click an App Store or Google Play download badge. We use this information to improve our website and understand which pages help people find Citizenry.

3.3 Advertising and Kickstart Exchange

The free iOS version of Citizenry may display ads for other apps through Kickstart Exchange, operated by Hudson Heavy Industries Ltd. Citizenry Pro subscribers and lifetime customers do not see these ads. Kickstart Exchange is not integrated into the Android version of Citizenry.

Kickstart Exchange processes Usage Data categorized by Apple as Product Interaction and Advertising Data. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you. The SDK may process:

  • Our Kickstart API key, the app's bundle identifier, platform, app version, build version, and SDK version
  • Your App Store storefront country, which is used for app compatibility and app-level reporting and is not treated by Kickstart Exchange as your location
  • App-level ad impressions, clicks, and reports
  • An Apple-signed App Transaction when StoreKit provides one, solely to verify that a production copy of Citizenry is running

The Apple-signed transaction may contain stable transaction and device-verification values. Kickstart Exchange processes the signed data temporarily and immediately discards it without retaining, hashing, logging, correlating, targeting with, or analyzing those values. After verification, the Kickstart application session does not contain a user or device identity.

Ad requests and artwork pass through Cloudflare, which processes the connecting IP address to deliver and protect the service. Kickstart Exchange states that it does not store those IP addresses or use them to identify anyone.

Kickstart Exchange does not use an Advertising ID, personalize ads, build behavioral profiles, or track users or devices. When you tap an ad, the SDK asks Kickstart Exchange to record the app-level click and then opens the advertised app's App Store page.

3.4 Advertising Citizenry in Other Apps

Citizenry may also be advertised in other apps that participate in Kickstart Exchange. Those App Store links may contain Apple's provider token and a Kickstart Exchange campaign token. Apple may provide us with privacy-protected campaign results, such as product-page views, downloads, app usage, sales, and subscriptions. Kickstart Exchange does not receive those App Store conversion details.

3.5 App Store Purchases

If you make a purchase or subscription through the Apple App Store, the payment is processed entirely by Apple. We receive limited information necessary to support your purchase, such as:

  • An internal transaction or order ID
  • The product purchased
  • The purchase or subscription status

We do not receive your full payment card details.

By using our app and making in-app purchases, you consent to our sharing of data regarding your usage and consumption of purchased content with Apple, as part of our efforts to resolve refund requests. This information may include details about how you have accessed and interacted with the purchased content. We ensure that such data sharing is done in compliance with Apple's policies and only as necessary to process your requests.

3.6 Location Information

Some features in our app may use your location (such as ZIP code) to provide location-specific information like your local representatives. Providing location information is optional. The app will still work if you choose not to provide it.

We do not store your precise location on our own servers.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our Services
  • Improve the performance and stability of our app
  • Understand how users interact with our Services
  • Display and measure non-personalized app recommendations for free iOS users
  • Measure privacy-protected campaigns that advertise Citizenry in other apps
  • Support optional location features
  • Comply with legal and regulatory obligations

5. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom (UK), we process your personal data under one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract: To provide the Services you request (for example, processing purchases through the App Store).
  • Legitimate interests: To maintain and improve our Services and understand how our Services are used, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.
  • Consent: For certain analytics or location-based features where required by law. You may withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Legal obligations: To comply with legal obligations, such as tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements.

6. Sharing of Personal Information

We may share your information with:

  • Service providers and processors working on our behalf
  • Analytics and error-tracking providers (such as Google Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics)
  • Kickstart Exchange and its infrastructure provider, Cloudflare to deliver and measure app recommendations in the free iOS version
  • Apple App Store in connection with purchase verification and subscription management
  • Authorities when required by law, regulation, or legal process

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as the term "share" is defined under the CCPA. Kickstart Exchange ads are not personalized and are not used to track you across apps or websites.

7. International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States. Your information may be processed in the United States or other countries, which may have data protection laws that are different from those in your country of residence.

For EEA and UK data, when personal data is transferred to a country that does not provide an equivalent level of data protection, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to:

  • Provide and improve our Services
  • Meet legal, accounting, or regulatory requirements
  • Resolve disputes
  • Enforce agreements

Analytics and usage data are typically retained for up to 12 months, unless required for a longer period for security, legal, or operational reasons.

Kickstart Exchange states that it keeps app-level ad delivery and interaction records for approximately 30 days. It retains daily app-to-app statistics, including app IDs, date, platform, storefront, accounting outcome, and impression and click totals, without a fixed deletion date. 9. Your Rights and Choices

9.1 General Rights

Depending on your region, you may have rights to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Request its deletion
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

9.2 EEA and UK Users

If you are located in the EEA or UK, you may also:

  • Object to processing based on our legitimate interests
  • Request data portability for information you provided in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format
  • File a complaint with your local data protection authority

9.3 California Residents (CCPA)

Citizenry does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined by the CCPA.

Our Services are not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including secure servers and access controls.

However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material updates will be communicated through our app or other appropriate means.
