Being prepared with all required documents can make your citizenship interview go smoothly. Here's a complete checklist of what you should bring to your USCIS appointment.

Required Documents (Everyone)

  • Interview appointment notice (Form I-797C)
  • Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
  • Valid passport or travel documents (current and expired)
  • State-issued photo ID (driver's license or ID card)
  • Copy of your N-400 application

If You're Married to a US Citizen

  • Marriage certificate
  • Proof of spouse's US citizenship (birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or US passport)
  • Evidence of living together (joint bank statements, tax returns, utility bills)
  • Divorce or death certificates from any previous marriages

If You Have Children

  • Birth certificates for all children
  • Evidence of relationship (if children are adopted or stepchildren)

If You Traveled Outside the US

  • All passports used during the time as a permanent resident
  • List of trips outside the US with dates

If You Owe Taxes or Child Support

  • Tax returns for the past 5 years (or 3 if married to a US citizen)
  • IRS tax transcripts
